This post was inspired by a very good friend of mine. We were talking about why it is that as soon as she feels a sweat coming on she stops exercising and how it hugely contributes to her "Cottage Cheese thighs". Anyway, I would like to preface this by saying that I acknowledge that I am the least likely person to write about black women's hair. I am bald headed and male... lmao. The fact of the matter is that many of the people that I Love are black women though and I am all about making sure that everyone can access their best experience of life through fitness and accessing phenomenal health. So, I felt obligated to address this issue.
One of the greatest deterrents for black woman to go to the gym and exercise until they break a sweat is that their hair will get messed up. Sounds crazy, but it is very true that moisture can wreak havoc on a black woman's hairstyle transforming it into a big unruly puff of hair. Because of this fact many woman have become resigned to being either cute and fat or slim, fit and a little crazy about the hair. According to the American journal of Public Health less than 30% of black women exercise regularly. African American have the absolute highest rate of being overweight and obese in America.
